Master's students learn about logistics first hand at Mugele FIELD STUDIES Master - Industrial Management

Eight students in an Industrial Management master's degree course visited Mugele in Iggingen-Brainkofen as part of a Supply Chain Management lesson. SCM is defined as an integrated approach for establishing the best possible flow of materials from the creation of a customer requirement until the order is delivered to the customer. This field trip was the last in the series of 4 field trips dealing with the subject of Supply Chain Management. The students visited Varta Consumer Batteries, MAPAL, Zeiss Vision and finally Mugele over the winter. The field studies were organized by Prof. Günther Hachtel. Besides discussions with management on the subject of SCM, the most important aspects of the field trips were tours of the production and logistical processes.

Mugele is a medium-sized shipping agent/logistics service provider with approximately 120 employees working at locations in Germany, the US, Mexico and Brazil. The Iggingen-Brainkofen site is where logistical services such as planning, scheduling, order picking, packing and transport arrangements are made for goods movements. Goods are mainly transported overseas in containers. Mugele has a wide area of influence in the Ostwürttemberg region, with many customers in the automotive supplier and machine building industries. In the aggressive logistical service providers market, Mugele maintains its prominent position mainly by offering service packages that are tailored specifically to its customers' needs.
